Choices

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

and, he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High,Creator of heaven and earth. Genesis 14:19

Abram had an encounter with two kings. Melchizedek, king of Salem, blessed him with a promise that had been already made to him earlier in Genesis 12:2. This was definitely important as it was repeated here after he had defeated the king of Sodom in war. This defeated king of Sodom offered Abram all the goods that had been taken in war, but Abram refused. He had to choose between trusting God's promise and possessions. If he accepted the possessions, later on the King of Sodom might claim that he, not God, was the source of Abram’s riches. Abram made the right choice, to trust the promise.

It is so much easier and faster for us to accept possessions that are readily available than to hold onto a promise! Yet we have so many promises and examples in the Bible that encourage us to trust God. Genesis 15:6 says, “Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.” Such a great example of faith! It is also so encouraging to know that we can trust God for our eternal salvation – a security that is kept in the hands of the Lord Jesus!

The question is: Is there something in your life that you are willing to give up that God may be glorified? Making the right choices matters when we trust God. He is Sovereign and always in control no matter what! So, we should not fear as he says we are surrounded by His absolute protection. Psalm 34:7 reminds us that, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” There is no reason to doubt, nor quit either, because we have an eternal destiny.

Heavenly Father, help me to make the right choices when I am at a crossroads and wondering what is the right choice. Help me find direction from your word by listening to what you are saying. In Jesus’ name I ask. Amen

Through the Day: Think of the choices ahead of you today. Make intentional decisions based on trusting God to make the right choice that will be pleasing to Him. Joshua said, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
