Freedom

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

“It is for freedom Christ has set us free. Galatians 5:1

At a Retreat, after teaching a session, while walking to the lunch room, one of the young boys ran ahead of us all singing at the top of his voice, “I am free to run, I am free to dance, I am free to live for you! I am free!” He was celebrating freedom in Jesus. Knowing that Jesus has set us free from sin is truly worthy of celebration and dancing!

Freedom is a gift from Jesus because of what He did for us on the cross. We experience it as we obey the Holy Spirit living in us. It also liberates us from focusing on ourselves to serving others

Mark 10:15 reminds us that the Kingdom of God is “like a child”. This is simple but a profound truth. Christ is calling us to totally depend on Him to enter the Kingdom of heaven. Children often have very little control over their own lives and are dependent on adults. They embrace the fact that they have to put their trust in other people which is healthy.

The truth is that we become free when we accept Jesus to set us free from sin. Our personal opinions and misconceptions have to be put aside. Childlike faith is powerful. In Matthew 17, Jesus says if we have faith as a small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains. As we grow in our faith in Christ, we become aware of his presence. We will not be running alone in life but alongside our champion.

Regardless of what we face, Jesus knows how to lead us through to victory! Fear cannot hold us back, cycles of failure do not define us; nor is anxiety our portion! Trials cause our roots to go deeper because the Spirit of God lives in us. Faith makes us stand tall and strong like palm trees that stand the fiercest storms. Jesus is our assurance of all that remains unseen. We can roar with faith in every storm we are facing today!

Dear Lord, Help me to truly embrace the true freedom that is found only in Jesus Christ. Thank you for setting me free. Amen

Meditate on: Romans 8:37 “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us”.
