I was playing Jenga game with Mickey recently and when we reached the top everything smashed down. We then discussed the famous Bible story The Tower of Babel!
We should never try to be equal with God as the people tried to do here.
The people said “Come, let us build ourselves a city and tower” Gen. 11:4. This story is not just about a building! It is about pride, rebellion and the importance of being obedient to God’s Word. This happened after the flood. The people decided to build a tower to reach heaven. The goal here was about reputation to display to others and show off and so make others envious across the land. God hates pride, showing off skill and rebellion. But He is loving, merciful and gracious even when we sin and always ready to forgive.
God saw everything, He is all knowing - Omniscient. Gen, 11:7. One person in this story prophesied “lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth”. This prophecy was fulfilled, because it eventually happened! God called the tower of Babel “noisy confusion”.
It is significant to listen, obey and respect God. This shows how choices should be made carefully and how important it is to stick to God’s path and follow His way – which is always the safest and best way!
