Just Ask

Updated: Sep 25

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.  Psalm 20:7

Horses and chariots were very useful in battle in the past, an equivalent to our modern-day military tanks. They communicated strength and intimidation.  These should and could be trusted to a limited extent.  But, obviously, as believers in Christ, our confidence, hope, and security should not be in things.  Our trust in the name of the Lord must be above all things, the one who invites us to ask and is able to saves us from sin, harm and danger.

The Bible if full of stories from the lives of those who have come before us that prove that when we trust in the Lord, we can never come up short! Proof comes from the heroes like Daniel in the lion’s den, David and Goliath fight, and many others who show us how absolutely nothing can defeat us if our trust is fully in the Lord. Those who trust in chariots and horses will be brought down to their knees and fall but those who trust is in God, they will rise up and stand firm!  Psalm 20: says “they collapse and fall, but we rise and stand up straight.”

It’s pretty easy to trust that the car will safely carry us from place to place and there are many safety features in today’s vehicles. We can trust that a home alarm system, a surveillance camera and the spyware on the laptop are reliable. They are useful and helpful we also know that they can fail. There are those who may have lost everything in wars, have experienced injustice, or things in their lives have collapsed.  Regardless of all these, still our hope can remain firm in the Lord because He definitely knows much more than we do. He is Adonai, our master and Lord!

If we live out in obedience what the Lord has laid out before us, and choose a lifestyle that is pleasing we are assured to win His way. Ephesians 6:11 admonishes us to “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”  Since battles are often waged against us as God’s children, we have to be fully dressed in the armor of God which is His Word. The Lord sees the complete picture from His lenses and is fully aware.

Dear Lord, Teach us to deliberately, today, turn aside from trusting anyone or anything in this world that will misled us.  As the Holy Spirit guides our steps, you ultimately are where we place our total trust. Amen

Reflection:

What are some examples of God’s faithfulness in your life recently?

Can you identify areas in your everyday life where you can ask God for help?
