“But those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
It appears that we are incredibly tired these days, stretched too thin, pulled in countless directions by everything around us. Our tanks are running on empty. Our minds at times are overwhelmed to the point where Biblical truth has thin avenue to break through the clutter and expel the doubts, fears, worries and frustrations we’re struggling with.
How then do we remedy the problem to experience fully, physical, emotional and spiritual revival in our hearts? There is an illustration about the eagle that says, while the storm rages below, the eagle is usually soaring above it. It does not escape the storm; it simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. Eagles are known to be tenacious.
The word “wait” reveals the feeling of unknown, uncertainty, anxiety, frustration perhaps anger, patience and others. Patience often resonates with me. Yet waiting can also be relaxing. Isaiah reminds us the secret of waiting on the Lord. This requires listening to hear what God is saying - being deliberate and intentional. God, our friend wants us to be so well equipped in order to be what He initially created us to be, His hands, feet and voice in total dependence on Him. He reminded me of this yesterday!
Waiting on the Lord means fixing our gaze on Him: on His invisible and eternal qualities, character and love. This is an act of faith and trust in Him. It’s an attitude of expectancy that He will surely show up in our lives so we can experience His presence and care.
Waiting can strategically cultivate good fruit in our lives such as patience, perseverance, endurance and others. It requires paying attention, drawing closer and listening to God, We can then say with confidence that His grace is enough.
Dear Lord, help me to trust you in waiting and know that you are in total control during times of waiting. Be my comforter, healer and peace when I am overwhelmed.
Reflect on: Weight is lifted in waiting!
Meditate on: ….. “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2Corithians12:9
