What a stunning sight it was just briefly watching the Paris Olympic opening ceremony on Friday, July 26, 2024 with 85 boats on the Seine River transporting 6,800 athletes from 206 nations. All were heading towards the sparking Eiffel Tower. The event was so colorful with each nation parading in their beautiful attires. It was also interesting to watch as each boat passed by, with faces of athletes beaming with big smiles and excitement!
I was reminded of how “awesome” heaven is going to be. If this is what can be accomplished here on earth now which is so temporary, what is heaven going to be like for Christian believers? The Bible says … “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1Cor.2:9. As believers we should be even more excited! God’s invitation is open to all nations and everyone who is willing to RSVP personally. We have such wonderful opportunities to invite everyone to heaven.
Right now, there is so much excitement in France. Paris is known as “la ville de l’amour” – (the city of love), one person said in his speech: “this is your home, enjoy it, take it with you! All the welcoming was the French style! Sports unites the world but we all know this is temporary! We know as we share God’s love with others, there is so much more in store! In John 14:2 – Jesus said “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home”. Well, after August 11, the Summer Olympics in Paris will end, and all the athletes go home and this will become history! But we are awaiting heaven which is eternal and by far the Highest Place forever!
The athletes in Paris have one thing in common “focus” because that is what got them there initially and their eyes are aiming for medals. Despite the rain that came down, they were still smiling. 2 Timothy 2:5 says “… athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. What a great reminder to us to focus on Jesus, for eternity is still in perspective even when the going down here may be rough at times!
Reflection: What matters most to you?
**the incident of depiction of "the Last Supper" was unacceptable!!
