Breakfast is often called 'the most important meal of the day. It replenishes to boost your energy levels and alertness and provide other essential nutrients required for good health.
Jesus made this invitation to his disciples in John 21:12a, 'Come and have breakfast'.
Simon Peter and 6 other disciples, decided to go fishing after the resurrection of Jesus, as in John 21:3. They went out in the sea but caught nothing all night. Jesus was already there at dawn and saw their frustration. He knew they needed help, called out to them and told them exactly where to go fishing.
At the time Jesus had already prepared fish and bread for breakfast ready to serve them. This was such an important time of the day! Then soon after the disciples caught lots of fish, breakfast was already in place.
He wanted to spend time with them. This is an important lesson for us to learn as it has an application to us both physically and spiritually because He says” I am the bread of life:” in John 6:35
This shows how the morning is such a significant time to spend time with Jesus. Just as He prepared a healthy breakfast for the disciples He awaits for us each morning with a sumptuous breakfast after we wake up perhaps feeling exhausted, confused, and frustrated like the disciples did with no results and empty nets wondering just what the day might bring! He invites us to His banqueting table to partake of all He wants to offer to satisfy the deep hunger in our souls before we can face the new challenges of the day. But, we have a role to play and we need to be intentional, make room for Him for that closer relationship and spend time in His presence. Simon Peter and the 6 disciples had good intentions, made a move by purposing to go fishing that day and Jesus met them.
After that healthy breakfast Jesus focused on Simon Peter and asked Him 3 times “Do you love me?” It is interesting to note here that although the other disciples were present, Jesus focus was on Peter. He cares enough to focus on us as individual and wants us to find time to be with Him alone so He can speak to us like He spoke with Peter.
It doesn’t have to be just breakfast. You could “have coffee with the King” as my friend often calls it, what an honour to be with The King! Having a conversation and developing a deeper relationship! Davis says: “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him” -Psalm 34:8
