The Life

Updated: Mar 29

...., “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 8:35

We live in a world full of cultures that are activity-laden, that cannot wait, and that needs things done fast.  We often assume we accomplish more when we are active; there is pressure to do something always. It is possible to waste time on social media unless it’s on things that matter.  Do we sometimes goggle our worries? When vacation time comes, we wish the time would never end!

We long to have lots of money so that we would be set for life. Worldwide, many are searching for something that will last forever, life! Can we call that life? Yes, but this is only temporary!  We are reminded that real life is in Jesus!  John 10:10 states, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. He came into the world to change our desires so that he would be our main desire.

We learn from Proverbs 8:35 that “whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord”. The Bible says that those who believe in Jesus will have eternal life, their names will be written in the lamb’s book of Life.” Material things will not last forever, vacations which are necessary will end, beauty will fade, but having a relationship with Jesus is forever. This is a call for good investment in every area of our lives.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”  Everything that we are looking for can be found in Him.  No wonder He says, He is the bread of Life. In the natural, bread is  consumed every day wherever you go on this planet! It was there from the beginning of creation.  How much more do we need Him from the spiritual perspective. During the wilderness trip the children of Israel had relapses and wanted to go back to Egypt every time they faced challenges. But they had to be reminded of where they came from. We need not look to the world for the life answers we seek, but to God.  The darkness of the world is so severe that only God alone has to penetrate it in order to free people to see Jesus clearly. When our faith is anchored in Christ, He gives us the real life in abundance.

Dear Lord, help me not to fear the future but to boldly trust that you are in control. At times when I can't talk, when I just don't know what to say, help me to meditate on your word that says ““I am the bread of life.”

Meditate on: “Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Mat.4:4)
