The Moment of Reflection

Updated: May 7

“He counts the stars and calls them all by name.” Psalm 147:4

Those who witnessed the Solar Eclipse recently, can definitely say that this experience caused many of us to react with varied emotions, identify them and process into thoughts and reflections. A mixture of various expressions, awe, excitement, fear, uncertainty, delight and stress were conveyed. The length of time was just a few minutes but it has left lasting impressions!  The experience was truly epic! Someone described it as “the moment when day became night”. Can you imagine what it might have felt like to experience darkness for three hours during the death of Jesus? Mark 15:33 says “At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.”

It made me think of what Moses on Mt Sinai might have felt when God allowed him to have a glimpse of his glory! The moon during the eclipse was like a veil shielding us from the power of the sun to allow us to see some of its glory with our eyes. God spoke these words in Exodus 33: 20 “But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” Joshua prayed and there was a total eclipse as they fought their enemies as shown in Joshua 10:12.

God knows all things, sees all things and comprehends all things. His wisdom is beyond measure, and His understanding is without limit. He affirms his greatness, power and infinite understanding. His creation is so vast and incomprehensible yet He know us and calls us each by our names just as He calls the stars by their names! He loves us enough to allow us to have a glimpse of His creation for a few minutes by allowing us experience the totality of the Solar Eclipse! Take a moment to express gratitude to Him!

This also made me think of standing on the shore of the ocean with powerful waves thundering all around and then slowly calming down. The warmth, radiance and glimpses of God through each person he created and the celestial bodies is unexplainable!  Revelation 22:5 says: “And there will be no night there - no need for lamps or sun - for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.”

Dear Lord, Thank you for glimpses of your glory and for all you have wonderfully created. You are the true light that outshines the dark times. Amen

Throughout this day meditate on this verse: “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.” Malachi 4:2.
