The Pursuit!

The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm! Exodus 14:14

Pharaoh asked “What have we done, letting all those Israelite slaves get away? Exodus 14:5b

One more time God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and that made him to pursue the Israelites on their journey into the wilderness. This was for the purpose of displaying His glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. As the pursuit began the Israelites experienced panic in the camp but at the same time did the right thing by crying to the Lord. They were desperate for help! What is your reaction in moments like these? Have you ever been followed by a stranger?

A few years ago a good friend was being stalked by someone in the evening and she was in great panic. She quickly ran to my apartment and called me from outside to let her in for safety before the person could reach her. She was desperate and called for help! How comforting it is to know that our God is always there and available during our times of need.

During the Israelites pursuit in fear they paused five questions to Moses – check these out from Exodus 14: 11-12. Have you ever asked the Lord these questions when in desperation? Well, Moses answered them all by saying: “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again! The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm!” Exodus 14:13-14. How comforting this was for the Israelites during this hounding time and for us when we are going through hard times!

God’s agenda for the Israelites was to set them free so that they could go and worship Him freely. Worship is priority to God, Pharaoh was not going to stop Him in any way. What an encouragement to us that no matter what obstacles the enemy places in our path, God is still on the throne. He loves and values our worship and He will accomplish His will for our lives no matter what comes our way as we aspire to be in step with him.

Dear Lord, help me to be aware of your presence in every situation in my life and to discern your intentions when I am going through a storm and feeling abandoned and to experience your love.

Meditate on Exodus 14:13-14 “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today.…… The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm!
