The Truth is …

Updated: Mar 29

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Truth is a “Person” Jesus, as Blackaby reminds us in the story of the disciples who were faced with a fierce storm in Mark4:35-41.  If you’d have asked the disciples in the terrifying storm, “What is the truth of this situation?” they would have said, “We perish!” But remember, Truth was asleep in the back of the boat! Such a great reminder to us that Jesus is always present in our circumstances no matter what we are going through!

Christ reassures us that faith in Him is faith in God.  To know Christ is to know, “the way, the truth and the life that leads to eternal life.  Jesus is the giver of life and the only one who can take us to the place He prepared for us. He is also the source and revealer of truth.

He did not say He would tell us some truths, but that He IS the truth, who opens up our understanding and knowledge of God.  The one that surprises the wisdom of man and silences all the assumptions of prideful humanity. Jesus is the truth because there is no old or new generational truth, He is rooted in the eternal God.  His blood was shed on the cross for us so that we can be saved. …”For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin” (Hebrews 9:22).

Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?”  Prior to this Jesus had just explained to him that He had come into the world to bear witness to the truth and that everyone who is of the truth listens to him. Pilate was not listening with his heart, “Truth” was standing before him but instead he was pressurized by the crowd to reject Jesus.  Each one of the four gospels presents Jesus from a different view but all reveal that He is the Truth and so does the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

In a world where corruption abounds Jesus came to shine the true light. The cross is the defining reality of our faith in God. Unlike the broken promises of this world, God’s redeeming promises are absolute, trustworthy and true.

Thank you, Lord Jesus for my freedom because you are the Truth.

Reflection:  Truth is a person not a concept!  We can only know the truth of our circumstances when we first hear from Jesus who knows how to handle all situations!

That Jesus is ultimately steadfast in the stream of history is where my faith resides. What you said of his promises being absolute, trustworthy and true is compelling in our age of broken promises.
