Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakites were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.”Joshua 14:12
In a sense the mountain represented Caleb’s physical land inheritance. However, we sometimes speak of “mountains” as obstacles that must be overcome. It appeared that there were still some mountains for Caleb to overcome before he could really enjoy his land inheritance.
Caleb followed the Lord wholeheartedly! He was one of the two honest spies who had been sent to spy the land. God gave Hebron to Caleb regardless of the Anakites and it still belongs to the descendants of Caleb today. God is filled with grace and He is faithful to keep His promises or rewards regardless of background, age or whatever else! Caleb waited for forty years to receive his promise and the Lord kept him strong and healthy enough to possess his inheritance. A reminder that whatever the Lord gives to you, no one can take it away no matter how long it may take! We all have mountains to climb spiritually and obstacles in our paths but with God’s strength we can overcome regardless of how rough the terrain or territory. It is the Lord who will stand for us.
God is telling us today that there is much more inheritance to possess! There is so much more that He can do with our lives. When we don’t posses the land that is ours, the enemy will step in and slow us down. Whether it is through the negative influence of people, friends, the media or whatever else! The lesson is that Caleb's faith in God was not shaken by circumstances! If we are to move forward and climb mountains, we, too, must express our confidence in God and His ability to give us victory.
Dear Lord, arise and empower me and give me the enablement to take over all mountains that can cause me trouble. Amen
Reflection: God will give us the power to help us to reach our goals as we step out in faith. Nothing is too hard for the Lord to do today!
Meditate on: “Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.” (Matthew 21:21)
