If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
Asking God for wisdom is evidence that we trust Him. James reminds us that God gives wisdom generously and is not stingy in providing insight to those who ask him how to make the best choices. We obtain wisdom from God to enable us endure trials joyfully, know God and then ask him in faith to meet our needs.
God’s wisdom far exceeds any human understanding and knowledge that we can possess. We know that in our daily lives, we face decisions that challenge our understanding and tests our judgement. From the smallest to major ones, these choices shape our path and define our character. Wisdom is a lifeline for those who may be swimming in the sea of uncertainty and decision-making. Asking God for wisdom carries an implied understanding of God’s nature as loving, generous and responsive.
The distinction between worldly wisdom is often self-centered, focused on achieving personal success or recognition without regard for divine will or integrity. 1 Corinthians 1:25 reminds us that: “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength”. God’s wisdom is selfless, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and hypocrisy.
We receive God’s wisdom as we express humility and dependence on God. Divine wisdom transforms how we live, think and interact with the world around us. It impacts our daily lives, brings light to our paths, strength to our spirits and alignments with God’s divine purposes. Hebrews 4:16 says: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Here are some Bible heroes who displayed wisdom; Solomon is known as the king most famous for wisdom but unfortunately, he was consumed by his achievements, pride, wealth, and foreign women later in his life that distracted him from his relationship with God. Daniel is known for seeking God's guidance, interpreting dreams, protection during the lion’s den experience, and his influence in the most challenging circumstances. Joseph had the ability to lead a nation, and interpret dreams. They did all this for the fulfillment of God’s purposes in their lives and serve as examples for us today. The amazing thing is that no matter what our experiences are, God is always at work and He has given each individual an open invitation to ask Him for wisdom.
Dear Jesus, I ask You to help me make good use of the wisdom you give me every day. Sometimes my choices may not seem clear so I ask you to help me seek you today for clarity.
