Where is this God of Yours? Psalm 42: 3
The phone or computer will not run off its battery forever. It will need to be plugged into a power source via a charger eventually. Humans are the same way. There may be times we try to act out of our own power, gain control and make choices without including God. We can only run off our “battery” for so long.
In this fast-paced world, what are you thirsting for? Entertainment, rest, sports, work, family, hobbies and the list goes on … These are all good activities to engage in, but they are only for temporary relief. How about when moments of bombardment, harassment, stress or despair show up! Psalm 42:1 says “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you.” The deer in the desert, a dry place, heads to the stream to be replenished.
The Psalmist says “I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? He has found the solution is being in the presence of God which can be felt tangibly as the Spirit of God dwells in us. Stretches of busyness, occasions of weariness and distractions will dull the sense of His presence.
Jesus said to the woman at the well in John 4:14 “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again”. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” The woman said to Jesus, please Sir, “give me this water! Jesus’ answer was “Anyone who drinks this water has a fresh spring in them daily.” I am reminded of the impact “Water Falls” have. They provide soothing sights and sounds that help us relax and de-stress in today's busy world. The presence of God will provide much more, companionship, confidence, counsel and comfort.
God does not ask us to understand but to trust His presence that enables us to obey. Just as we need water to keep us hydrated, we need God’s presence daily to enable us respond to the question: “Where is this God of yours? Especially during those times when things are not going well. As we yield and connect with the Holy Spirit, the well in us becomes ready to overflow with truth, compassion and hope. Our response should be to wait on the Lord for a breakthrough! When things are at their absolute worst, we will have the assurance that there is glorious hope in the future. Your desert will become a flowing fountain!
Dear Lord, Thank you for the invitation you make available for me daily to come into your presence to quench my thirst. Help me to be a refreshing well and look for opportunities to encourage others.
Meditate on: “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God”. Psalm 42:1
